Dance performance coaching is ideal for serious dance students or pre-professional dancers who would like personal feedback on their technique and artistry as they prepare for concerts, competitions, auditions, pageants, or recitals. Coaching can also be a tool used in addition to a student's daily classroom training, It is important for dancers to continue to grow and find new meaning inside of choreography, and having a coach alongside them on their journey is beneficial to that process.
Dance performance coaching sessions can be booked by a studio owner, parents of dance students, students who are over the age of 17, and freelance dancers. It is up to the client to reserve the necessary studio space for a coaching session.
A somatic movement session is meant to deepen one's connection with and understanding of their body. Sessions are catered to the client's goals, which may include finding more self-confidence within the body, improving energy levels, or increasing coordination and balance. Sessions typically involve mindful centering exercises, breathing techniques, and fundamental movement explorations that awaken the joints and muscles and stimulate creativity. Music is played softly throughout the session as I guide you to explore various movements. Sessions are non-judgmental and encouraging in nature. No dance or athletic experience is necessary.
Anyone with a body! Anyone who is curious about new ways of moving their body!
Wear comfortable clothing that allows for freedom of movement. Typically, sessions are done barefoot or in socks, but please wear the necessary footwear that makes you feel the most at ease.
Somatic movement sessions can take place in the client's home, in an open gym setting, in a studio setting reserved by the client, or even online via Zoom!
Somatic dance classes aren't that different from more standard dance classes. I teach using the language of contemporary dance, highlighting the dancer's inner experience versus outward appearance. Rather than focusing on tricks, turns, or drills, somatic dance classes encourage ingenuity and introspection through phrase work, creative movement explorations, and improvisation. We delve into the use of space, dynamics and effort life, and fundamental movement patterns. Somatic dance classes are a valuable addition to a student's training.
